About Me

Hi! I’m Veronica Dailey, a Registered Nurse, Certified Correctional Nurse Preceptor, and the author of Straight to Jail: A Nurse’s Guide to Correctional Nursing. I’m based in New Jersey and have been working in healthcare since 2009, with a focus on correctional nursing since 2018.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working in a variety of settings, including men’s and women’s prisons, youth facilities, and both maximum- and minimum-security prisons, and specialized treatment centers for incarcerated individuals. In my time within the correctional system, I’ve held various roles including Staff Nurse, Infection Control Nurse, and Department Nurse Manager. I’ve worked all shifts, including nights, and faced challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic, all while maintaining my passion for this field.

In 2022, I took a brief break to explore a career as a Level 1 Trauma Nurse in the ER, but by the end of 2024, I found my way back to correctional nursing full-time, where I feel most at home.
